16 Spring 2016 outfits for normal people! :)

When the new season arrives it’s always a little challenging to know where to start.  Well, with spring weather here I thought I’d post some of my favorite looks I’ve been rocking.

Here are some tips for what’s hot this year:

  • Edgy girl: Distressed jeans of all colors and shapes and lengths!  Fabric textures like suede and faux leather. Wrap bracelets.
  • Classic gals: get your stripes on!!
  • Romantic ladies: lace, scalloped hemlines and cut out detailing.
  • Preppy sisters: floral and colored Blazers and hats!
  • Bohemian chics: kimonos, wrap bracelets, gauzy fabrics, WHITE!, beads, distressed jeans, wide leg pants, maxi skirts
  • Casual femmes: distressed jeans, lightweight drapey cardigans, slub tees half tucked, denim jackets, maxi dresses!

Remember, be you, dress for the weather, and confidence is your best accessory. (No but seriously, it really is!).

Fall fashion, mixing patterns

Dark wash skinnies (Ross – $10)
Aqua solid top (somewhere in Cali, maybe Ross? Under $10)
Striped cardigan- (ebay $10)
Chandelier earrings -(no idea where, prob on clearance)
Brown flat knee high boots- (Amazon $25)

The trick to mixing patterns is to make sure your patterns are quite different, and that one is a small print while the other is a large print. If they are two different kinds of prints they won’t compete as much as if they’re kind of similar. Here we have very delicate prints in my scarf with lots of colors, in contrast to the straight bold lines of my black and white striped cardigan. They’re close to the same size print, but distinct enough I was able to pull it off.

And here is a scarf I found in my NMR app that I love!! I think it’s $12, but I’m pretty sure I saw some similar ones on eBay for cheaper. Gonna try there first.

A few outfit ideas…

I’ve been über into the whimsy maxi skirt personal decor lately, as well as drapey sweaters and headbands. Here are some outfits I’ve put together and documented for my own sake. I tend to have a hard time getting it on camera but here are some I managed to get. I also snuck in a good second-day natural curls up do for ya!! Forgive the apparent similarities between outfits… I’m obviously obsessed right now!

Mixing black and brown, stripes, plaid

20130326-154315.jpg

Here is another outfit I put together today for going to the “farm at the fair” w my sons class. I thought boots and plaid would be fitting! I didn’t plan on a scarf but it was so cold I threw this one on and was relieved it matched!

So, when you want to mix black and brown, gold and silver, go for it!! It falls under the rule of balancing warms with cools and vice versa. Here I have a lot f warmth in the outfit (brown plaid, yellow shirt, brown leather) so I intentionally threw on the silver earrings and black/silver ring, and later added the grey and white striped scarf. The cools balance the warms and make it more aesthetically appealing.

I am convinced the scarf can go w the plaid shirt bc the stripes are subtle and not bold. Remember, when mixing patterns, they can’t both compete for center stage. One must be subtle while the other is bold.

There ya have it! Can’t see too well but the boots are a black/brown leather. Makes them great to wear with either color.
